Microsoft sets cable-box deal

SEATTLE Microsoft Corp. today plans to announce deals with Time Warner Cable and Comcast, who have agreed to run trial programs of its software for the digital cable boxes that sit atop customers televisions.
Time Warner will deploy Microsofts interactive program guide software on set-top boxes in the Beaumont, Texas market, said Ed Graczyk, marketing director for Microsoft TV. Details of the trial have not been decided.
The so-called IPG software combines program information with the ability to view movies on demand and other services.

I mean you got to put into consideration that sky has interactive services, not mentioning games etc. I mean I've been to America and i havent seen any intercative services
Sky Digital is almost identical to Comcast Digital. It has Video On Demand, and even Dating On Demand. Games aren't added to that lineup because gamers will simply use computers or separate consoles.

The way I understand it is HDTV is more popular in the US while digital TV is a buzzword in the UK (even though you hear the latter in the US). Digital TV, in the UK at least seems to take after the concept of a DVD where you have value added services such as interactive menus and never before seen videos. Am I correct? What is the difference between digital TV in the US and in the UK?
The terms "Digital Television" (DTV) and "High Definition Television" (HDTV) are often used interchangeably, but they are NOT the same thing. Digital Television refers to a TV signal that is transmitte …8 different standards for digital TV broadcasting (all Digital TV tuners are required to decode all 18 standards), the practical application of DTV has come down to 3 standards. These standards are: 480p, 720p, and 1080i.
