If you can seperate food from love in your mind, you can leave dry food down all day, and offer a small amount of wet food in the evening or just before you leave for work.
Because eating is the high point in most pet's days, it is very easy to make that their main drive. Try making food less interesting and interactive, and use affection and play as your 'love' and social interaction. You..., next to the bed - when they hear the drawer open they come racing in for 'fun and games'. So TV time may be interupted by flying cats. Likewise, there are perches in my office and in all the windows so they are interested and involved.
Make food less 'the' event in their lives, and make life more exciting. They will begin 'snacking' when they are hungry, and not 'hoovering' every morsel.
